Unit
The core of the Institute’s manufacturing activity is located in Pallini. Within a total building area of 5.000 m², two production lines are housed, covering a combined area of 1.000 m². The production and quality control areas are constructed in accordance with European standards (EU GMPs), and the following pharmaceutical dosage forms are manufactured on site.
Production of oral solutions/ Methadone hydrochloride solution
Since 2005, a modern, fully automated, high-capacity production line for oral solutions has been in operation.
Methadone is manufactured at the Institute’s facilities exclusively to support the substitution treatment programmes of Hellenic Organization for the Prevention and Treatment of Addictions, providing daily access to therapy for thousands of individuals. Domestic, automated production ensures quality, adequacy, and sustainability, constituting a key pillar of social care and Public Health, with significant benefits for the State and society as a whole.
Tablet manufacturing and packaging
The solid dosage manufacturing line of IFET S.A. commenced operation in 2009, when the contract manufacturing (Facon) production of the Institute’s proprietary products was transferred to this line.
Within the tablet production line, orphan medicinal products are manufactured at highly competitive international prices, including:
- Acetazolamide (ophthalmic indication: antiglaucoma agent)
- Hydrocortisone (anti-inflammatory corticosteroid)
- Dianycotyl (antitubercular agent)
A modern pilot facility operates within the Institute’s premises and may also be utilized by other pharmaceutical companies for trial and pilot-scale production of medicinal products. In parallel, IFET S.A. operates a fully equipped Analytical Quality Control Laboratory, staffed by specialized personnel, where physicochemical and microbiological testing is performed, ensuring the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of manufactured products at all stages of the production process.

The Production Unit of IFET S.A. constitutes a strategic instrument for national pharmaceutical self-sufficiency, with a clear focus on sustainable development, modernization, and the strengthening of domestic production. Within the framework of IFET S.A. ’s strategic planning, the gradual renovation of the Production Unit has already been scheduled, along with its upgrade through the installation of modern, state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.
