Irradiation Unit

The Irradiation Unit of IFET S.A. was established in the early 1980s and has been operating continuously ever since, making it one of the company’s oldest and most specialized infrastructures. In its early years, it served the production needs of the former ELBIONY S.A.

Today, the Unit operates exclusively in providing irradiation services for medical devices to domestic and international companies, consistently maintaining a high level of expertise, safety, and reliability.

Irradiation

The installed system consists of an industrial irradiator for medical devices (placed in cartons), from Nordion, a Sotera Health group company, which is considered a global pioneer in nuclear medicine applications, with the largest number of installed irradiators worldwide.

The irradiation unit is certified according to EN ISO 9001/2015 and EN ISO 13485/2016 standards.

The operation of the radioisotope laboratory (irradiator) is licensed by the Greek Atomic Energy Commission.

Approximately 45 domestic companies, as well as 1 international company, have their products sterilized through irradiation in our irradiator.

The unit is expected to be upgraded by enhancing the cobalt-60 source of the irradiator, thereby significantly increasing its production capacity (approximately 400-500%) to serve its customers faster. Concurrently with the source enhancement, modernization actions for other key peripheral systems of the facility are planned.
